FAQ

How does the Orca Green™ work?
The internationally protected technology behind our state-of-the-art bio-composting reactor includes the use of environmentally friendly microorganisms. Fully automated, the bio-reactors' integrated microprocessor creates the ideal environment for aerobic composting of organic waste and biocompostable resins and materials. The Orca line is capable of composting up to 1600 pounds of waste per day, greatly reducing the impact on our landfills. The most incredible aspect of this technology is that you can now turn your garbage into water!

Why should we use Orca Green™?
There should really be only one answer-because we all need to share the responsibility of being good stewards of the environment. Beyond that, any business or institution will enjoy the benefits of reduced carting, dumpster and labor costs, a safer and more sanitary work environment, reduced rodent and insect problems, lower water consumption and much more.

Is water the only by-product?
While each Orca can produce approximately the weight in water of the waste introduced, the only other by-product is a trace amount of carbon dioxide gas.

But isn't carbon dioxide a greenhouse gas?
Yes, but methane is worse. Methane is the by-product of the decomposition that occurs in landfills. Furthermore, hauling waste to landfills requires trucks that burn petroleum products, resulting in the release of a number of pollutants. The small amount of carbon dioxide produced by the Orca Green™ system actually becomes a net benefit.

What happens to the discharged water?
Various uses for the discharged water are in development. Depending on facility location and desired level of filtration, the possibilities for the effluent can range from irrigation, compost tea, non-potable plumbing, and eventually potable water!

Is there any sludge left in the machine?
No

Isn't this just a big garbage disposal?
Not at all. A garbage disposal grinds and then sends chunks of food into our sewer systems, creating undo burden on water treatment plants. In addition, garbage disposals require constant running water during operation. Orca Green™ does not grind garbage, it eats it!

Can the microorganisms that compost the waste harm the environment or me?
No. The microorganisms are all natural and around us every day. They are not bio-engineered.

Is there any odor from the bioreactor?
No. Our technology uses low temperature aerobic composting, which sets us apart from any other commercially available composting technology. Low temperature composting means no bad odors.

If my garbage goes to a landfill, isn’t that taking care of it?
Actually, no, because most landfills operate by compacting a variety of garbage types and then putting a thin earthen fill on top and covering up materials that are going to slowly, if ever disintegrate. We’re just building more garbage heaps.

What good does composting do?
If the products are made of naturally occurring fibres and substances, they will decompose in the right environment. This is usually one in which leaves and other naturally decaying substances contribute the helpful bacteria, heat and moisture that create the right “recipe”. At the end, all we’re left with is the nutrient rich compost that plants love to grow in.

What happens if our compostable products go to a landfill?
Although it’s not our dream situation, it’s still better than what is happening now, because the compostable products will eventually break down and decompose. Unlike some of the plastics, coated papers and Styrofoam™, our products will not linger for the next decade or longer.

Aren’t compostable products more expensive?
They are slightly more expensive than paper and plastic products but offer sponsorship opportunities to not only pay for the program…but to actually profit from it.
